Understanding the importance of safety in a work environment is always important especially if it is fire safety. In fact, this is one of the most important things that an employer needs to teach its employees right at the start when they join the company. The work starts with generating awareness in their mind. There are several steps that one can follow to raise proper consciousness about fire safety among workers.
- Spreading the message across the new employees is not a very difficult task. In fact, they are the best people who will be listening to whatever you say because they will want to create a good impression. So, they are expected to remain attentive and grasp your words. When giving them a speech after they join the company, try to evoke the topic of fire safety awareness. You can also raise the topic while giving them training. If you want, you can check the knowledge of your present employees by asking certain safety related questions during the training program.
- You have to teach your employees some basic fire safety rules like R.A.C.E (Rescue-alarm-contain-extinguish) and P.A.S.S (Pull the pin, aim the extinguisher nozzle at the base of the fire, squeeze the handle, sweep from side to side). These are some basic rules that need to be taught effectively. Make your employees clear about the ways to use the extinguishers during the fire. Also make sure your employees know where the fire extinguishers are placed at the work place. In order to teach them in a more methodical way, you can play some videos and clips to demonstrate the exact procedure to exit at the time of fire inside the office.
- Another way to raise the safety awareness is to call the fire safety department along with the local health and safety authority at your office. You and your employees will get good chance of talking with professional people and be able to gather good information on safety. On the other hand, you will give an open chance to the local fire department to run health and safety investigations in your organization. This is a great way of spreading fire safety information among your staffs.
- Always ask your employees to come and discuss with you on the health and safety of your office environment. Being an administrative person you need to convey to your staffs that you are really bothered about the health and safety of your employees. Ask them to state their concerns and if possible rectify them as soon as possible.
